Scot Luther is a founding partner of Virgata Property Company and oversees the firm’s acquisitions. Scot has 30 years of commercial real estate experience and since he began taking ownership in real estate ventures in 1999, has acquired or developed 40 retail and medical properties totaling over 450,000 square feet located in Texas, Mississippi and Tennessee. Since 2003, Scot and partner Jim Peterson have served as preferred developers for Fresenius Medical Care, the largest provider of Dialysis treatment in the world. Prior to running his own business; Scot served as Director of Acquisitions for CenterAmerica Property Trust, a Morgan Stanley owned REIT where he was responsible for acquiring grocery anchored centers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Arkansas. Scot began his real estate career as a Leasing Executive at Weingarten Realty (WRI) where he negotiated hundreds of retail leases and renewals over an eight-year tenure. Beginning in 2008, he served as a Board Member of REITPlus, a private, publicly regulated REIT and upon its merger into AMREIT (NYSE) in 2010, served as a Board member of AMREIT until it was sold to Edens in 2015. Scot currently serves as a Trustee of the Houston Real Estate Business Coalition and has formerly served on the Board of the Presbyterian School, Secretary of the Episcopal High School Dad’s Club, a Councilman on the City Council of Southside Place and an Elder at First Presbyterian Church Houston.

Jim Peterson

BBA from Texas A&M University

Jim Peterson is a founding partner of Virgata Property Company and oversees the firm’s development activities. Jim has 30 years of commercial real estate experience, and has been an owner and developer since 1999. His primary expertise is in design, construction and real estate portfolio management. He has been associated with Fresenius Medical Care as a preferred developer since 2003, as well as being involved in a variety of new development and redevelopment projects. Jim began his real estate career in the service industry, first as an appraiser and later in the brokerage industry. As a member of the Appraisal Institute, he specialized in right-of- way acquisition and expert witness testimony. On the brokerage side, he represented national tenants in site acquisition and with private developers on market studies and site assemblages for grocery store and drug store sites.

David Boone

David Boone is a partner of Virgata Property Company specializing in both Acquisitions and Ground-Up development. David manages all aspects of the development process including site selection, construction management and dispositions. David has years of investment experience in both residential and commercial real estate. Over the past 3 years, he has overseen the development of medical, retail and restaurant properties with a total value in excess of 60 million dollars. Prior to his career in real estate, David negotiated leases and property acquisitions in the energy sector. David is a licensed real estate broker and provides full service brokerage needs to both Virgata Property Company and 3rd party owners and tenants.

Melanie Reece-Hodge

Senior Property Manager, CPM

Melanie Reece-Hodge joined Virgata Property Company in 2016 as a Senior Accounting Manager and transitioned to the role of Senior Property Manager the following year. Melanie has over 14 years of commercial real estate experience and earned her CPM designation in 2020.  Her experience includes the oversight of general and preventative property maintenance, the implementation of commercial lease agreements, representing Landlords in tenant relations, and managing accounts payable/receivable. Melanie’s experience also extends to a variety of accounting and reporting software including MRI, Yardi Voyager, and Yardi Breeze.

Austin Ratcliff

Austin Ratcliff is a Development Manager for Virgata Property Company. Austin manages all aspects of the development process including site selection, acquisitions and dispositions, construction management, tenant construction coordination, property management, and leasing.

Austin graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from University of Texas in 2014. He has 5 years of commercial property management and tenant construction coordination experience in the Greater Houston area. In his prior roles, Austin’s responsibilities included managing vendor services, contract negotiations, the implementation of lease agreements, and the tenant build-out process as a landlord representative. His experience also includes budget development and forecasting, market research and analysis, real estate accounting, and business development to increase ROI.  

Cathy Gildea

Senior Accountant, CPA

Catherine Gildea joined Virgata Property Company as an accountant in 2019. She has 18 years of experience in accounting, comprised of 10 years of experience in public accounting, and eight years of experience in commercial real estate. Cathy graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2000, and earned a Master of Science in Accounting from University of Houston–Clear Lake in 2002.  She obtained her CPA license in 2006.
